Why Choose a Carlow BSN at Saint Vincent?
  • We expect excellence: Carlow’s nursing program has the highest pass rate in the Pittsburgh area – 100 percent for new BSN grads in 2017! Nursing excellence is a Carlow tradition: BSN graduates from Carlow University have had the highest NCLEX* first-time pass rate in the Pittsburgh area for the past four years.
  • This program will allow students to enjoy Saint Vincent’s academic excellence in the liberal arts and sciences while living on our beautiful campus all four years.
  • Students are required to have a 1,060 SAT score in reading and math and a 3.0 overall high school grade point average.
  • The BSN in nursing requires 120 credits, including the nursing major, general education, support and the liberal arts, with clinical nursing courses beginning in the sophomore year, and all course work to be completed on the Saint Vincent campus. Students will receive a BSN degree from Carlow University.

Carlow’s Department of Nursing has been educating nurses since 1948 – more than 70 years! Today, Carlow’s College of Health and Wellness continues that tradition of excellence.

Saint Vincent College has a long tradition of excellence in preparing students for careers in medical and health fields. This collaboration opens the College to a new direction in health-related opportunities for students.

In addition to the nursing courses taught by Carlow faculty, students will complete general education, support and liberal arts courses to complete core requirements, all taught by Saint Vincent faculty.

Saint Vincent College has a history of more than 170 years of excellence in the liberal arts and sciences. Graduates of our programs in the Herbert W. Boyer School of Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Computing have a rich heritage of success in many health-related disciplines including allopathic and osteopathic medicine, physician assistant, physical therapy, pharmacy, occupational therapy and nursing.

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program will be housed in the Sis and Herman Dupré Science Pavilion, which includes the new James F. Will Engineering and Biomedical Sciences Hall, featuring a new human anatomy lab that allows students to assist and learn from outstanding area surgeons.

  • On-Site Clinical Preparation

    Students will have clinical rotations at a variety of regional sites that include Excela Health locations near Saint Vincent College and Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

    Graduates will be prepared to provide direct and indirect nursing care to individuals, families and groups in diverse settings, supporting health promotion and disease prevention as well as offering therapeutic and restorative care.

    Graduates from the BSN program at the Saint Vincent campus will be well prepared for careers in health care systems regionally and nationally.
